Opened since 1954, the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center currently serves more than 170,000 members in a variety of locations throughout the city. The medical center includes a 247-bed, seismically up-to-standard hospital with a top-rated emergency department and neonatal intensive care nursery, as well as several medical office buildings providing both primary and specialty medicine.

Several unique features of the medical center include Bilingual Chinese and Spanish modules, where practitioners provide adult primary care to members in their native languages, and an electronic medical record that allows for integrated care and communication across a broad spectrum of specialties and the Pharmacy and Imaging Departments.

Other services at the medical center include pediatric specialists, a full-service health education department with classes for both Kaiser Permanente members and the general public (at a nominal fee), after-business-hours urgent care on weekends and evenings, house calls for senior members, a weekly farmers’ market, and state-of-the-art cardiac care.

Kaiser Permanente has received several accolades for the high quality care and service it delivers, including the 2007 top-ranked commercial health plan in California by the U.S. News and World Report (usnews.com).
